Imports Compliance Administrator

Our client is a well-established group of manufacturing companies that specialise in growth markets that require advanced technology and high reliability.
Markets include aerospace and defense, factory automation, electronics design and development and pharmaceutical research.

We are now recruiting for an Import Compliance Administrator for my client head office near Gloucester.

This position requires supporting the development, implementation and management of centralizing the UK import compliance functions as it relates to imports across the corporation. The role demands exceptional communication and collaboration skills, and strong import trade expertise.

Provide support and assistance to all of the UK wide business units and operational stakeholders ensuring that the Trade Compliance related systems and processes employed are compliant and efficient. Assisting in developing and maintaining the internal systems to allow for greater efficiency, reductions in cost and increasing customer satisfaction.
The role will require some travel within the UK and possibly US.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitor EU Customs Community Directives, aligning business processes to comply with changing requirements including trusted trader programs such as AEO approval/compliance.
Develop and implement import software for UK group as required
Significant contribution to achievement of AEO or equivalent status for UK group
Accurate processing of import transactions and liaison with/providing instructions to import agents
Monitor post entry amendments of trade transactions and support identified non-compliant or corrective issues.
Attend regular conference calls with UK import specialists/administrators to ensure information associated with global import compliance is communicated, fully understood and key initiatives implemented.
Assist in the deployment of corporate standard policies, processes and best practices on import trade compliance to ensure compliance with customs and other applicable government agencys regulations worldwide.
Identify potential areas of import compliance vulnerability and risk within the organisation; and work to appropriately evaluate, investigate and resolve or mitigate potential risk.
Conducting import audits and consult with Senior Corporate Director and Corporate Legal as needed to resolve any legal compliance issues.
Assisting with investigation and drafting of voluntary disclosures to HMRC.

In order to apply you will have:

Hand-on experience and extensive knowledge of EU/UK Customs and experience with freight agents essential.
In-depth knowledge of UK Customs regulations, valuation, classification and special trade programs;
Customs procedures and processes
Use of HMRC recommended specialised import software such as Descartes advantageous.
High accuracy and attention to detail are essential requirements for this position;
Capable of multi-tasking and prioritising with excellent time management skills is required;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Strong administration skills and an understanding of business needs
Proficient in various PC-based software packages.
