European Freight Operations

Job Title: European Freight Commercial Operations UK
Based at: Preston Brook, Warrington, Runcorn

Position reports to: UK Management Team

Job Purpose Summary:

- To handle the movement of export and import consignments through primarily European road trailer operations as well as some air and sea freight movements.
- To assist in the development of additional business from new and existing clients.
- Operating within our clients busy Planning Department to ensure high levels of service to both internal and external clients in a cost efficient and customer-orientated manner.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities include tasks as follows:
- Demonstrate cost awareness in decision making processes.
- Commercial awareness and able to provide high service levels to clients.
- Prioritising workload to complete all tasks in a timely and concise manner.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge of load securing and safe loading of vehicles.
- Export and import transport planning and scheduling.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Customs procedures and paperwork
- Taking phone calls dealing with general enquiries, customer quotations etc.
- Developing business with clients and maximising new opportunities
- Input of data including entering / updating job files maintaining transport planning computer system.
- Quotations to clients, taking bookings
- Liaising with other offices and service partners in relation to consignment planning and scheduling.
- Ensuring we deliver good customer service consistently.
- Ensuring that service providers perform in accordance with agreed service levels.
- Other general department duties and any other task as deemed reasonable for the effective running of the department / organisation.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

- Experience of working in a Transport / Freight Forwarding environment is essential and must possess a good geographical knowledge of UK & Europe, minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role and must possess an excellent knowledge of European import / export markets.
- Knowledge of cargo loading capabilities and cargo / trailer planning is essential.
- Good working Knowledge of Customs procedures and documentation.
- Good communicator, strong written and verbal communication skills, be people oriented, good telephone manner, problem solver and an outgoing personality is a must.
- Flexible and entrepreneurial disposition along with the ability to negotiate.
- Strong administration skills and organisational ability. Able to work as part of a team, under own initiative and cope under pressure in a busy department.
- Commercial awareness and able to provide high service levels to clients.
- Demonstrate cost awareness in decision making processes.
- IT literate with extensive knowledge of Microsoft products and able to adapt to in-house bespoke systems.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge of load securing and safe loading of vehicles.
- Knowledge of ADR is an advantage

WORKING CONDITIONS

- We provide a well-equipped, air-conditioned, open plan office linked to a busy warehouse and transport yard facility.
- We provide site induction / instruction with a view to ensuring that staff members are comfortable with their working environment and that they are fully aware of our site Safety & Security policies.

- We may require that staff travel to other offices (UK or Europe) for training or meetings. The cost of travel and accommodation will be fully remunerated.

Remuneration

- Salary Scale will be £25 £32k depending on age / experience.
- The company also operates a bonus scheme where (subject to meeting budget) staff members are awarded an annual bonus.
- The company offers a group private pension scheme and makes contributions based on length of service.
